Shape Up this Fall

Autumn is the perfect time to start a fitness program; with the change of seasons comes a renewed time to rethink and restart. Destinata Retreats, San Diego’s Ultimate Fitness and Weight Loss Retreat offers tips to help you get in shape this Fall.

 

Get Outside 

Walking, hiking and cycling are all amazing in the fall. Discover new park trails and take in the beautiful foliage.

Raking leaves or doing fall outdoor yard work is a great way to get the heart pumping, and burn calories.

Don’t Just Sit There

Many of us get geared up for fall premieres of our favorite television, but don’t just sit there! While you watch, you can walk or run in place, do standing lunges, do tricep dips off the couch, or lift weights. During commercials, do push-ups or sit-ups.

Integrate Exercise into Your Daily Routine

If you’re spending the afternoon taking kids to soccer practice, instead of reading a book or visiting with another parent, walk around the outside of the field while they practice.

Try “walking meetings.” Get your colleagues out for a walk to brainstorm and delegate work.

Practice the 30-day Rule

It takes about four weeks for the body to adapt to lifestyle changes. Stay with a program for a month; after a month, behavior patterns will have adapted and sticking with it will be much easier.

Strive for the 3 Cs

Commitment, convenience, and consistency “the three Cs”, will lead to a successful fitness program.

First, exercise takes commitment. We’re all busy so you need to plan for exercise, just like you do everything else. Put in on the calendar and get it done.

Convenience means choosing a gym that’s close by, or an activity you can do at home, or a time when you’re not likely to be interrupted.

Finally, there’s consistency. Keep with it, even if it is only a few minutes each day.
